Training mission

Training is one of IFP Energies nouvelles' mission.

This mission is achieved in three ways:

  • graduate programs for engineers offered by IFP School,
  • research or research-based training at IFPEN:
    - internships for master students,
    - program for doctoral studies (PhD),
    - postdoc program,

IFP School

The IFP School, an integral part of IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) offers graduate training programs to young engineers and holders of a master’s degree. The industry-oriented programs prepare the students in 15 to 18 months for taking operational positions in the energy and transport related industry.

The quality of its teaching, combined with the extent and diversity of its partnerships with universities and industry, make it a prominent international force.

Each year, over 600 students from across the globe graduate, well-prepared to meet tomorrow's energy challenges.

Research-based training

Research based training at IFPEN offers excellent students and young PhDs the possibility to work during a fixed-term period in a stimulating research environment, with access to first-in-class laboratory infrastructures and computing facilities. IFPEN offers competitive compensation/salary and benefits packages, according to the specific training.

Internship program

IFPEN offers a number of internship opportunities for French and international students. Internships typically cover a 6 months period, but shorter or longer internships can be envisaged. Interns are expected to be in the last year of a master’s program in a relevant scientific discipline, but younger students may also be accepted in some cases.

Internships are offered by IFPEN’s Research Divisions and are located in its offices in the Paris and Lyon area.

Some of the offers are posted on http://stages.ifpenergiesnouvelles.fr and if you wish to apply for such an offer please follow the instructions given on that web site.

>> If you wish to apply independently from a specific offer, please send your complete CV (e.g. Europass template) and your cover letter to training@ifpen.fr.

Doctoral studies program (PhD)

In cooperation with French and international universities, IFPEN runs a comprehensive PhD program with more than 40 new doctoral theses starting every year.

All PhD students obtain a three year contract, allowing them to dedicate themselves completely to their thesis work. The contract may be with IFPEN (majority of cases) or with an external partner. Also, while most of doctoral students work at IFPEN offices in the Paris and Lyon areas, some may work at partner locations or may have the opportunity to spend part of their time at such a location.

All PhD students are part of IFPEN’s Doctoral College and have access to dedicated seminars and trainings.

PhD topics are proposed by IFPEN’s Research Divisions and are posted in January on http://theses.ifpen.fr. If you wish to apply for such an offer please follow the instructions given on that web site.

>> If you wish to apply independently from a specific offer, please send your complete CV (e.g. Europass template) and your cover letter to training@ifpen.fr.

Postdoc program

IFPEN offers several postdoc positions for PhDs that have obtained their degree not more than three years ago. Postdocs are offered a 12 month full contract, with a possible extension to a total of 18 months.

Postdoc topics are proposed by IFPEN’s Research Divisions and the research projects are performed in its offices in the Paris and Lyon areas. Some offers are posted on https://emploi.ifpen.fr or on specialized web sites. If you wish to apply for such an offer please follow the instructions given on the respective web site.
