Refining-petrochemicals, a rapidly evolving sector

The energy context for the period up to 2030 will be marked by a substantial increase in the demand for oil products –due in particular to growing mobility in emerging countries–, as well as the increased proportion of heavy oils in refinery oil supplies.

In the shorter term, the refining industry will need to be able to produce fuels that meet increasingly stringent specifications, restore the diesel/gasoline balance and deal with the upheavals resulting from the growing importance of shale oil and gas in the United States, which may, in the future, radically alter the balance in terms of the import and export of products such as gasoline and diesel.

Via its research programs, IFP Energies nouvelles is developing the technological solutions required by the refining industry to help it through the necessary changes.

IFPEN research results are taken to market by its subsidiary Axens and its partner Heurtey Petrochem.
