IFPEN's R&I projects in the field of transport are conducted within the context of the IFPEN Transports Energy Carnot Institute.

IFPEN develops innovations aimed at reducing the environmental impact and improving the energy efficiency of the transport and energy sectors. It offers technological solutions, software and services designed to optimize energy consumption and reduce the pollutant emissions and costs associated with the transport of the future. It concentrates primarily on land transport, along with industrial applications (off-road, agricultural vehicles), but also on the energy sector, as well as aviation and maritime transport.

Integration into the French and European research and innovation system

Addressing the major challenges facing society
IFPEN makes an active contribution to numerous national initiatives, carrying out research with clearly defined objectives, meeting the needs of different economic sectors and addressing the major challenges facing society as a whole. It also plays an active role in competitiveness clusters focusing on its own specific themes of interest: member of CARA European Cluster for Mobility Solutions, MOV'EO, ASTECH and the ITE (Energy Transition Institute) VEDECOM.

IFPEN contributes to the design of major national programs
It takes part in various Strategic Committees or Steering Committees (CSFA, Predit – French national program for land transport research and innovation –, ANR, etc.) and is a member of the French National Alliance for Energy Research Coordination (ANCRE).
IFPEN is also involved, either as a coordinator or partner, in numerous government-funded projects: ANR (French National Research Agency), FUI (French Interministerial Fund) calls for projects, Ademe, , etc.

IFPEN contributes to the definition of the Framework Program for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020
To support this role, it is an active member of the ERTRAC (the European technology platform for road transport) Steering Group, the Green Vehicle Initiative Industrial Group, the Board of EARPA (European Automotive Research Partners Association) as well as the Transport GTN (French National Theme Group).

Research for enterprises

IFPEN Transports Energie has been part of the Carnot Institutes network since 2006.
This label is testimony to the scientific quality of IFPEN's R&I projects and its capacity to work closely with socioeconomic partners to contribute to the development of SMEs and intermediate-sized companies.
