Applied Mechanics

In the field of applied mechanics, teams at IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) design and develop innovative computational tools, equipment and systems for the oil industry and New Energy Technologies (NET).

Applied mechanics research teams have the expertise and technical resources required to meet various energy-related challenges, with a particular focus on the following themes:

  • Optimization of drilling equipment and oil production,
  • CO2 management: capture, transport, storage,
  • Power transmissions for hybrid vehicles and engine friction with a view to reducing vehicle fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Scientific skills

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Solid mechanics (materials and structures)
  • Fluid mechanics (fluid flow, interactions with structures and solids)

Research themes

With its globally recognized expertise, IFPEN is involved in major international and European research projects.
In the field of Applied mechanics, the teams’ research work falls within the framework of several strategic priorities:

IFPEN contributes to the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge by making its research results accessible to the broadest possible professional audience worldwide.
Articles, conferences, reference works: IFPEN promotes its research results via a dynamic scientific communication policy.
